Shenzhen adds “Blu-ray LED” Nobel Prize winner research team

On the morning of the 13th, the opening ceremony of Shenzhen Zhongguang Industrial Technology Research Institute and Nakamura Shuji Laser Lighting Laboratory was held. Deputy Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee Secretary Ma Xingrui, Mayor Xu Qin unveiled the research institute and laboratory, and Ma Xingrui issued a letter of appointment for Nakamura Shuji.

It is understood that laser lighting technology is a world-class, subversive new-generation lighting technology, and the industry affected and driven will reach a trillion scale. Professor Nakamura received the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics for inventing blue LEDs. The Nobel Prize Selection Committee said in the award speech: "The incandescent lamp lights up the 20th century, and the 21st century will be illuminated by LED lights." He is therefore called "the 21st century Edison" and is known by the industry as the "Father of Blu-ray". ".

Professor Nakamura took his research results in Shenzhen and became the second Nobel laureate to work in Shenzhen. In June of this year, Southern University of Science and Technology and Robert H.Grubbs, a professor of the Department of Chemistry at the California Institute of Technology, and the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, established the Grubbs Institute in Shenzhen, focusing on research in new medicine, new materials and new energy. The Nakamura Shuji Laser Lighting Laboratory will be dedicated to building Shenzhen into an internationally influential technology research base for laser lighting and a high-end R&D talent training base.

Dr. Li Wei, Dean of Shenzhen Zhongguang Industrial Technology Research Institute and the winner of the “Thousand Talents Plan” of the Central Organization Department, said at the unveiling ceremony that the introduction of the laser lighting laboratory of Professor Nakamura Shuji was a series of implementation of the municipal party committee on promoting scientific and technological innovation. The policy sets up specific measures named after famous scientists and led the establishment of scientific laboratories to enhance the innovation ability of Shenzhen source.

The laboratory will carry out cutting-edge research in the field of next-generation lighting technology to achieve source innovation. At the same time, it will attract and attract high-end talents around the world to form agglomeration effect, leading effect and radiation effect of talents, and build Shenzhen into an international influence. The technical research base and the high-end R&D talent training base in the field of laser lighting promote the industrialization of laser lighting technology and make positive contributions to the innovation drive development of Shenzhen and the creation of an international technology industry innovation center.

When talking about why the team chose to settle in Shenzhen, Nakamura said that it is surrounded by nearly 400 billion yuan of lighting industry market in Shenzhen, and Shenzhen itself is a gathering place for LED industry. The industry support is very mature, and laser lighting technology research and industrialization are carried out. The conditions are unique. At the same time, the innovative spirit and open attitude of the city of Shenzhen, as well as the vision and courage of the government officials, the efficient operation of government departments and good service awareness, left a deep impression on him.

Nakamura Shuji is an American-American scientist. In 2014, he won the Nobel Prize in Physics with other scientists in recognition of their invention of blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs), and thus brought a new energy-saving light source. Previously, red and green LEDs have been around for a long time and have been used in display sources for machine instruments. However, because the three primary colors of light contain red, green, and blue, the blue light source is missing, so that the white light source of the illumination can never be created. It is precisely because of the light of the three primary colors of red, green and blue that LED lighting can be used to illuminate the 21st century.
